Margaret Mee beside the Rio Negro Brasil, May 1988 with champagne
and a cake of cupuaçu, a local fruit. .She was celebrating the
successful sketching of the flowers of the cactus Selenicerus wittii..The
flowering had eluded her on previous journeys. This photograph is part of a series
taken for a television 'pilot' /test project and for her book In Search of
Flowers of the Amazon Forests. Her 79th birthday was almost three weeks ahead
so with that in mind the champagne glasses were raised a second time to wish her
well |
