Bolivia.   The Chipaya of the province of Carangas to the west of Oruro are one of the least known tribes in the Andes mountains. They speak their own language, they have customs that differ from their neighbours, the Aymara, and their original housing was very distinctive. Chipaya houses were round and built of slabs of saline turf and finished with a domed roof thatched with tough grasses from nearby punas - high altitude grasslands.
