The Salvage of the SS Great Britain
Falkland Islands 1969 - 1970

Willie Bowles, the Falkland Island carpenter largely responsible for cutting down the masts, shows that the main mast some four feet in diameter was made up of 4 complete trees. The masts were some of the largest sailing masts ever made, each weighing about 20 tons and about 95 feet in total length.
