The Salvage of the SS Great Britain
Falkland Islands 1969 - 1970

The main mast between decks. It had been hoped to raise the masts in their entirety but the heel tenons were solidly rusted in, so the fore and main lower masts were cut through with a chain saw some three feet above the main deck level. It was difficult moving around on the lower decks as there were only iron girders and a long drop to the water at the bottom of the hull.
