Hundreds of wellwishers, including the The Right Hon. Lord Mayor of Bristol, Alderman Geoffrey Palmer and other special guests, welcomed the Great Britain back to the Great Western dock on 19 July 1970. The ship was launched from this dock 127 years earlier in 1843.
