Olmec, Mexico. This basalt rock covered with fine relief carving is 4m 26cms high and is known as Stele 3. It has been badly damaged but the figures can be seen quite clearly. Two finely dressed figures face each other. The one on the right near the base has a complicated and extraordinary head decoration. The carvings also depict the symbolic jaguar and a tail finished with a flower.
