The Spanish Church of Santo Domingo was built on an earthen platform that once supported the Inca Temple of the Sun, or Coricancha [Korikancha]. The curved retaining wall for the earth foundation is a classic of Inca stonework. The temple was the main shrine in the Inca capital, Cuzco, Peru and was the central point for a series of holy ways or routes known as ceques.
