A jar often called an aryballus- from the Greek - in Inca times a macka or puñun. The vessel is made of clay and decorated with natural pigments. It was probably used for holding a fermented maize drink known as chicha. Pottery clay was plentiful near Cusco the Inca capital and best known in a place called San'yo [San Sebastian]
